Had a little bit of break from cooking today because Doug and William didn't come for supper and the rest of guys ate at the Youth Study Center.

Jim even complimented me on my lunch today! He's known for his rather candid comments about the food he's served. Pam really gets irritated. Of course she's working on a slim food budget $7/person, so she can't exactly buy steaks, potato chips and gourmet foods. Everybody complains about the food, but no one wants to put any money in to improve it.

Had my second driving lesson today and it really went smooth, even though it was raining. In fact I drove all the way from Fairmount Park down busy Market street to the Keystone Building! Kept the car from jumping when I shifted gears this time. I'm learning in a VW four on the floor.

Had eight girls for Bible club at 10th and Thompson today! I get impatient with June when it comes to Bible drilling. She's got this negative attitude that she can't do it, and only under great pressure will she even try. Then she closes the book in disgust and says, "See, I knew I wouldn't get it!"

Actually she would if she'd give herself a chance. But I don't know how to help her see that. She always backs out of a Bible drill and comes up and stands by me and hangs on me. She enjoys Bible club, but I don't know how much of an understanding she has of her need to accept Christ.

I really feel rather useless with Larry here now. The reason I came to Broad street was because Delores needed some else to be with her ideally a guy, to take over the men’s ministry but there wasn't one at the time. Not that Delores needed someone else to work with the guys. She has no problem relating to anyone and she shines with the older kids.

Larry’s great. He's getting into the neighborhoods and getting into Delores' contacts Butch, Ben, Jerry and Gomer's contacts, especially Bobby Anderson. Larry feels frustrated right now because he's still building rapport and the kids need time before they'll start coming around. Delores takes kids up to Lancaster, her home, and also to farms, stables, creeks for canoeing. She really feels content here. Kids are always calling her to talk or have Bible study.

Now, me I'm just here extra; because of my personality, I guess. I still don't have anyone I'm working with really closely. I usually answer the phone or bell for Delores and Larry and it's my shortcoming, I know. I'm just not sure how much of an asset I am to the ministry other than my clubs. And even they have been rocky and mostly with little kids.
