Had my first driving lesson today, in a little VW four on the floor. It wasn't too bad. I just wish this was all over with and I was a confident driver!

June Green, in my 10th and Thompson club, really does have problems getting along with the other girls. The other girls whisper about her and don't play with her. I think that upsets her. But she is doing really well with the fish game now.

I saw Punchy at 23rd and Diamond tonight but it didn't look like him. He recognized me and called me from a distance.

"Hi, Jeanne!" he grinned big and waved. "Remember when we went to the parade?"

Punchy is one of Ronnie's little friends. He, Ronnie, I, on New Year's Day, had walked all the way up Broad Street to City Hall to see the Mummer's Parade. We sneaked up to the grandstands right in front of the judges’ booths. People had to buy tickets to sit there. But we hoisted ourselves way up to the top bleacher, and hung over the railing to watch the colorful parade. One by one, as people got tired and left, we were able to ease ourselves into good seats as the day wore on. We sat there and froze together from about 2:00 to 7:00! Then we stopped at Gino's and walked all the way back down Broad Street. It was really neat the guys couldn't believe I had never seen a big parade before.

Punchy's getting really cute. He reminds me of a small, arrow hurtling itself through the air. He flies and leaps instead of running. He was chasing kids around with an animal skin, and they were screaming bloody murder. He is James' age.

James, Ronnie's brother, is living with a man in one of the high rises instead of with his mother. Punchy said they were taking care of him, but Barb didn't seem to think it sounded good. Poor little 14 year old boy.

I met Amy, Greg and Ronnie's grandmother tonight. She had some grey hairs, scars on her skinny arms, and features like Frances Ronnie's mother. She was a little drunk and was quite friendly. She's living with her son Teddy, who is 22 and also drunk a lot. He lived at Teen Haven for quite a while under Barb's and Doug's care. Ronnie lived with Amy until he was about 9 or 10, 1 think.

Ruth and I played the piano together on some difficult pieces for me. She plays well. My cousin Mary and I used to play the piano together. We'd pick a hymn or a rock song,or a classical piece, and she'd take the treble clef and I'd take the base. We both really concentrated on getting it together. It gave us some common ground or tie as well, so it was good.

I gave Barb the guys' photo albums and pictures to take to them tonight. I picked up the rest of the pictures today.

A sincere little boy came up to me tonight and said, “I’m afraid of God's face.”

"Why are you afraid of God's face?" I asked. "Are you afraid it's going to be mean and ugly?"

"I don't know." He looked at me seriously. "I've never seen God."

"A lot of us haven't. But we can know He has a nice face because He loves us. And if we love Him, we won't be afraid, because the Bible says that love throws out fear.”

He smiled and turned away. "I love Him, but I'm still afraid.

You know, so was John when he saw Him.
